    • Financial assistance for to help care for services dogs.
    • Provides a monthly stipend of $50 to eligible persons who use a guide, signal, or service dog to help them with needs related to their disabilities.
    • Allowance is to help pay the costs of food, grooming, and health care for the dogs.

    To be eligible for the ADSA program, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

    • Live in California.
    • Is blind, deaf, hard of hearing, or disabled.
    • Uses the services of a trained guide, signal, or service dog.
    • Receives benefits from one or more of these programs:
      – SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
      – SSP (State Supplementary Payment)
      – IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services)
      – CAPI (Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants)
      – SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance)
      (SSDI recipients must also meet federal poverty guidelines)

    Assistance for pit bulls belonging to residents who live in the Bay Area, California.


    • Residents of  Alameda and Contra Costa Counties can apply for a spay/neuter voucher (up to $300) for their pit bulls.
    • Family-owned pets only.

    • Foster or rescue groups do not qualify for spay/neuter assistance.

    • Spay/neuter clinic for residents of Nevada County and surrounding communities.
    • Offers low-cost pricing for low-income residents
    • Supplemental Pet Food Assistance Program helps supplement food for family-owned pets.

    Supplemental pet food available under the following conditions:

    • pets must be spayed or neutered.
    • applicants must be low-income
    • Nevada County residents only

    • Loans or grants to economically disadvantaged and responsible pet guardians for veterinary care.
    • Low cost or free spay and neuter for economically disadvantaged pet guardians.
    • Pet food and supplies for financially disadvantaged seniors, disabled veterans, owners of service dogs and others
    • Information on responsible pet care and resources available in Monterey County.
    • Free microchips to area shelters for cats and dogs that have been lost and are reclaimed by their guardians.

    Assists senior citizens and disabled persons residing in Los Angeles or Orange County, California, with veterinary service support of up to $500.


    • Applicants must be 65 years old or permanently disabled
    • Applicants must demonstrate financial need for assistance in providing veterinary care for pets.
    • Applicant must live in the Los Angeles or Orange County areas.
    • Applicant may need to furnish recent federal or state income tax returns.
    • A maximum of two pets per recipient are allowed.
    • Proof of ownership may be requested.
    • Awards are for family pets only.
    • Pets must have been in the household for a period of 90 days before application.

    No assistance for stray animals.

    Assists pet owners in Los Angeles and Orange County, California, with veterinary care when paying for care is challenging or impossible.


    • Client must demonstrate financial hardship
    • Pet must be spayed, neutered, be spayed or neutered at the time of the assisted surgery, or be less than six months old. (Owner is financially responsible for the spay/neuter portion of the surgery.)
    • Covered care is only for non-elective medical and surgical procedures of sick or injured companion animals.
    • Treating veterinary hospital must be in SoCal with either a full or non-voting SCVMA member on staff.
    • Veterinary hospital is responsible for confirmation of applicant’s eligibility.  To locate an SCVMA member veterinarian, click here.

    • Veterinary hospitals are eligible for a maximum of $500 for full voting members and $250 for non-voting members per calendar year for financial hardship cases.
    • No family may receive more than the $500 or $250 and no pet may receive funds more than once in a calendar year.

    Not covered:

    • Routine physical examinations
    • Vaccinations
    • General prophylactic dental care
    • Spays and neuters
    • Caesarian sections
    • Infected uteruses (pyometra)

    • Financial assistance for emergency veterinary care for pets belonging to San Diego County residents.

    • San Diego County residents only.
    • Must have an immediately life-threatening condition that has a good-to-excellent prognosis if treated
    • Applicants must apply for Care Credit
    • Pets must be spayed or neutered, or will be at the time of the procedure or treatment

    • No initial exams or diagnostics
    • Will not pay existing veterinary balances
    • No grants for vaccines or ongoing treatment (i.e., diabetes)

    • Financial assistance for purebred Labrador Retrievers
    • Family-owned dogs may qualify for a maximum grant of $750.
    • Rescue-owned dogs may qualify for a maximum grant of $375.

    • Labrador may be family-owned or in a rescue situation.
    • If with a rescue, the dog must be adoptable.
    • Applicants must demonstrate need.
    • Balance on veterinary bill must be paid before receiving grant.
    • Dogs must already be spayed or neutered, or must be spayed or neutered at the time services are granted.

    • No assistance if dog is terminally ill.
    • No assistance if dog has history of dog- or human-aggression.
    • No assistance for dogs with genetically-based ailments, such as hip or elbow dysplasia, osteochondrosis dessicans juvenile cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy or retinal dysplasia. (Exceptions may be made for rescued Labs.)
    • No assistance for long-term medical needs.
